Opening Plan

November 16, 2006 Fortress has proposed Limited Opening to allow us gradual start up as we get our facilities certified. Beginning of January different government departments will be reviewing our Operations Manual for final approvals and direction.

Dec 21, 2006 we received a bridge engineers’ report on our Bridge. Upon SRD acceptance it will take some time to be compliant with recommendations of the report. We anticipate Gov’t feedback beginning of January 2007.

Fortress road has been graded, our plow truck is ready to gravel it and Road Avalanche danger for the road has been rated “none” by our CAA trained avalanche experts. At this time the road is closed to public until Ministerial Order 48/06 requesting bridge certification and repairs is lifted.

Our initial Lift to open will be Canadian and then we will open Backside, pending successful outcome of the certification process. Other lifts will be worked on as the lodge opens and at this point we can not pinpoint opening dates for the lodge.

Cat-Tow, unlike the Cat Shuttle, will be offered on regular basis on the Farside once we have both chairs in operation. Cat-Tow is a rope dragged behind the cat with upwards of twenty people on the line. This is recommended ONLY for expert skiers and riders with strong shoulders and arms and in sound health. The cost of Cat -Tow will be set at the time.

“Helga” is our bus that we purchased to offer Shuttles from Corner 7 back to Canadian Parking lot once Bandit Chutes are open to public. Chutes will be open once the base is 120cm and our Snow Safety opens the area. Helga is a sturdy mountain bus that will give you an easy ride back from, what some people believe, the nicest glade skiing at Fortress.

In addition Helga will be offering Shuttles from the Bridge, up the road for folks that arrive at our hill with summer or all season tires and not prepared for winter mountain roads. There will be no cost for this service with a valid day ticket or season pass.
